About My Products

WHO I AM
Hello! I am Melanie, the homebody behind Southern Charm Quilts. I started sewing on the side for profit a little bit since late 2008 and since then it has grown into a full time+ buisness. I do everything from designing, to cutting, to stitching, to photography, to packaging, and everything in between. A real one woman show! Of course, I do have to thank the hubby for the lovely studio.

I have been watching my Grandma sew since I was very small. She would make me costumes and clothing and I would sit and play with her collection of buttons.
Now, 20+10, I am addicted to fabric. I love to look at it, shop for it, put it together with other fabrics. Quilting realy works for that kind of addiction.

I actually learned how to sew in 7th grade home economics class, and since then have taught myself how to do everything you see in my shop. I have never taken a class, which sometimes shows as I still cannot follow a pattern :). So what you see in my shop are all my own designs, no patterns.

I live in Alabama with my family with trees all around us. Learn more about me on my blog:

CARE FOR YOUR ITEM
All my 'rag' items are machine washable and then just throw them in the dryer with a big fluffy towel and they get raggier. They are very longlasting.
My traditional quilts are washable too, but they will not stand up to frequent washing if over done. I wash my own quilts on gentle and with cold water, but not frequently.

MATERIALS
On the inside of all my quilts is a layer of all natural 100% cotton batting.  The finest available.  With the exception of my minky dot quilts, on the backs of all my quilts unless otherwise stated is an all natural 100% cotton muslin.  Read more about it here http://freshmodernhandmade.wordpress.com/2011/05/16/muslin/
