There is a blog post up today about Sugar Bears fabric requirements. Link in profile and stories. If you are signed up for the quilt along (mar 17), you’ll have received an email from me about all this earlier.

I’m still new with this ruler work. This might b I’m still new with this ruler work. This might be the third quilt I’ve given a go with it. It is painfully slow (or at least on a domestic it is) but it’s hard to not see that it adds so much. This ruler work of mine is by no means perfect, but I definitely see a little growth. I finished a couple days ago and started on the free motion (my fave, swipe to see). I’ve been working on my skills at this for not two years yet, and it fINALLY looks like the clumsy clunky me I have complained about so often has been semi-replaced with a more confident me. This feels so good. 🤎 I’m loving the work on this #sugarbearquilt . 🤎 The only way to this place tho was through, with all the palm face moments, all the annoying mistakes, all the cringeing. I’ve said before that all the “ugly” quilts are so worthwhile. Ha!
🤎
I get a lot of messages and emails about FMQ. I have a small series on the blog (tutorials>FMQ). One day I’ll chat about the ruler work on there, but I just need more practice before I do. Still there are several tutorials if you are interested.
🤎
I have about a 1/4 left of the quilt to finish with the free motion. I’m adding feathers, succulents and elongated curls. I’m enjoying myself and I hope to finish today. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻
This is the work of the lovely talented @tracylouk This is the work of the lovely talented @tracyloukota . She’s testing #sugarbearquilt for me. 🥰 I just wanted to show you how fun the quilt can look with an emphasis on fussy cutting and with a scrappy LV background.

A Pale Dresden Quilt – #7 – Quilt Reveal

I am thrilled to have my seventh Dresden plate quilt finished at last!  This time super pale!  I used fabrics from this post, plus a whole bunch of low volume squares from my stash. Just before making this one I designed my soon to come latest quilt pattern called Bad Girl.  I can’t wait to show it to you, but as I haven’t made the first block for it yet, I’ll have to wait a bit longer.  I would have already started it, but since it’s focus is mostly Dresden plates I didn’t want to start it too soon...

I got to playing around with my scraps and a new Basketweave quilt is what became of that time. This is my second Basketweave, the first precedes the blog, but it wasn’t pretty.  This one is pretty, but something is still not right. Apparently, I didn’t care.  As you can see I finished it.  But I’ve got some ideas to make this better.   Product Spotlight Flutter Cotton and Steel Melody Miller Fat Quarter Bundle 18″ x 22″ Each Fabric 100% Premium Cotton Smoke Free/ Pet Free Shop Shop Here.     What’s a Basketweave Quilt? Hand Cut Heart Quilt #7 + Free Quilt Pattern – quilt reveal + video tutorial

Today I’m showing off my 7th version of this quilt, all in blue this time, and I’m updating my tutorial of this block. I’m killing it lately with my scrap busting.  Making monochromatic quilts is the way for me for this.  Here’s what I do:  I have a basket for each color of my scraps.  All the pink and reds have a basket, all the greens, all the blues, each has their own basket.  When the basket gets full, it’s time to USE them.  If I don’t, I won’t have any place to put incoming scraps, so there’s my...

Quilt Reveal – Tiny Patch Quilt – made with clothing

It’s been awhile since I posted a quilt reveal.  I’m almost ashamed.  To be fair to myself, I have finished other quilts, but it hasn’t been anything new that I’d want to show you.  It’s just been me filling custom quilt orders that you’ve seen me make before. This one’s a bit different though. It is made with somebody’s husband’s clothing.  This kind of quilt is always so meaningful to me. It was mostly men’s dress shirts and slacks, a few Hawaiian shirts, some jeans.  I mixed them all with low volumes for a checkerboard design.  I couldn’t resist...

My seam ripper is my bestie + Swoon Quilt #6 ( quilt reveal )

I’m officially decorated for Christmas.  Notice how late I am.  Again.  It’s the same every year.  The truth of the matter is if I lived all by myself, I would probably buy a few more pink poinsettias and a Norfolk pine and call it a day.  My whole house and multiple rooms is now swathed down in Christmas decor, but it’s only for the family.  Maybe if they helped, I’d get into it more.  There was a time when I loved it.  These are the woes of being a mom of teens. But you are here for the quilts…....

Why you should store scraps by size + That Strawberry Quilt ( quilt reveal )

Two things you should know about me by now:  One is very obvious.  I’m obsessed with low volume and I’m not fond of straying from it.  Two is that I am methodical in my scrap storage. It sounds stuffy to be methodical about anything, or it does to me, but I like things in their place.  There are always things that don’t have a place like some fabric you pull that look great together and you want to make a quilt with them, but just not yet.  I end up with stacks of this kind of stuff here and...

My start with quilts + A Dresden Quilt #4 – ( quilt reveal )

You know I’ve been working on this quilt longer than I normally work on a quilt.  I don’t consider myself a fast worker, but I’m definitely steady.  I work at quilts on the daily.  It’s prolific for me.  A daily ritual that lasts most of the day.  I took hand quilting with me on my vacation, so ……..  I’m addicted. It’s also a job.  Does that take away some of the luster for you? I’m working on a short video for my shop.  Did you know I sell quilts for a living?  Did you know that until a...

Orange Peel Quilt #7 ( Quilt Reveal )

It feels like I’ve been working on this quilt for weeks.  Maybe I actually have been.  I posted some progress pics and a new interfacing source here last week. The steps on this quilt are a little long and repetitive so I usually break this one down into, cut a few, sew a few, cut a few, sew a few, instead of my normal cut all the things and then sew all the things.  Because one can only hover over a zig zag stitch for so long. One thing I did do differently on this one than all my...

Quilt Reveal – Tiny Patch Quilt #3 – Take that, 4.5″ scrap bin!

One way that I store scraps is by squares.  I have a bin for each different size from 2″ – 7″.  When one bin gets full, it’s time to do something with them.  For me, the easiest and most surest way to completely wipe that bin out is just by making a simple patchwork quilt.  It really does get the job done without any stress.  Sometimes the easy quilt is exactly what you need.  I like to burn a little lavender oil, put on some music, and zone out while chain piecing. Tiny Patch quilt #1 Tiny Patch quilt...

Quilt Reveal – Flying Home Quilt

I was participating in a fabric stack challenge over at Stitched in Color, and True Blue was the very first stack.  As soon as I took a photo of that stack I knew I couldn’t just put it all back in my stash.  I HAD to use it.  And since that very next week, I was working on my second to last post of the Piece like a Rock Star series and learning to make flying geese that is exactly what I did with this stack of fabric.  Of course more fabric had to be added, you know me....

Happy Mistakes – Quilt Reveal – Scrapping Stars Quilt

You remember me mentioning this.  Well, I found in a basket these little four patches.  I’m certain I was planning to make stars, but that is where my certainty ends.  I had lots of little pieces cut up besides the little 4-patches.  I do remember where my inspiration for this block comes from. The cut rectangles that you see to the right, fit the 4-patches perfectly, AND there was the perfect amount for all of them.  And then, I sewed them altogether to make my block. My issue came with the layout.  There was not enough blocks to make...

Quilt Reveal – The Meander Hexie Quilt

You already know how much I love Heather Ross fabrics. I have quite a bit.  I have quite a bit of oldies.  I only like to use smidgeons of it, because….. Well, I like to look at it on top of the dresser that holds my stash.  It sits atop on a pedestal begging me to come pet it. So I’ll pull it out and look at all the sweet little novelty prints. I’ll admit that Rapunzel is my absolute favorite.  Her snarky face just owns me. But I’m also really taken with all the storybook characters.  And the...

Quilt Reveal – My Eowyn Quilt is Finished + thoughts on hand quilting

I’m pretty smitten about this quilt.  When I discussed it in my previous post, I was talking about trying hand quilting.   I decided to machine quilt first and then add the hand quilting.  This might have been a little backwards to the correct way of doing this, BUT it really was what and how I wanted to do it. I was planning on dragging this quilt about on a camping trip we went on and I wasn’t positive about how long my spray basting would hold up.  Machine quilting would sturdy everything up for me and then I...

Quilt Beginnings – Quote Quilt and all the supplies

Inspiration. It’s a pretty amazing feeling.  I don’t always have it, but when I do it almost feels like my mind is soaring. Ideas.  Feelings.  Excitement. There is usually a beginning. From about this past November – January, I was reading The Lord of the Rings books.  I know, I know.  I used to hate when those movies would come on TV and my husband would watch them and I get annoyed, but I really just missed ‘it’.  I didn’t get it.  Until I did. I’m not sure what possessed me to start reading the books, but it was...

Quilt Reveal – Hand Cut Heart Quilt #6

I have way too many scraps. SO. MANY. SCRAPS. You just can’t throw them away.  Heaven forbid. But if you are not using them they pile up quicker than itty bitty kittens. The trick is to use them quickly, but who can keep up with that? I got a quilt order for my Hand Cut Heart quilt. You remember it?  Here and here. I was so happy to make it. My red/ pink basket of scraps was spewing out on all sides. And I got to dig through the low volume stash. A favorite pastime of mine. I have a...

Quilt Reveal – Cara’s Quilt – another Tiny Patch Quilt

Hey, hey! Have you ever been given a quilt of a gift? I have only been given one, and it was my great grandmother’s.  My heart sung that day. I grew up in a house where there were no quilts.  I remember them at my grandparent’s house, but none lived with us.  These days, I am remedying that and filling every square inch of my house with quilts.  Come here and you will find a quilt on every bed. I think the vast majority of people do not spend as much time as I do thinking and petting handmade...

How to make a hexagon quilt with half hexies – free quilt pattern – 5 different sizes

Hey, hey! This week is MY week of hexagons.  I have cut up 3 different hexagon quilts, one of them is for a  custom order you will see in this post.  Very scrappy.  Two more to come soon, one will be a new pattern.   I’ve been asked for a tutorial and pattern details for this hexagon quilt that uses half hexies.  This will be a LONG post, so let’s get right to it.  No history this time.     I am NOT in to spending money on rulers I don’t use.  I’ve made that mistake before, maybe more...

Quilt reveal – swoon #2

I am going to miss staring at this quilt in it’s various stages. It’s been quite the beauty around here.  And happy.  It’s the happiest quilt. The Pattern: This is a Thimble Blossoms / Camille Roskelley pattern.  Pattern and class is available here. Camille’s pattern is smaller than mine.  I upped her 9 blocks to 16 blocks with 2.5″ sashing and borders making my quilt a king size that measures approx. 105×105″. Fabrics: All fabrics came from my stash.  I used a sherbet color palette. The white solid is Art Gallery Fabrics: Pure Elements in Snow. The binding is Euphloria...

The whimsical Dresden quilt – part 3 – finished

I am FINISHED with this quilt!  Whew!! I started this quilt on January 7th and finished it up just a few days ago.  It was about 14 days of work, but all those days were not spent on this quilt so it’s hard to say exactly.  I did some work each day. My color palette was navy, aqua, teals and mustardy golden yellow.  You will note tiny bits in the quilt where I snuck in a different color.  I simply cannot help myself.  I think sneaky bits make a quilt more interesting. Did you see some of the fussy...
