The Morning Sun Quilt Along – Month 3

There are already so many gorgeous Morning Sun quilts being made on Instagram!  I’m squealing over all of them.  Take a look here.  I love how laid back and easy going this quilt along is going.  You get a whole month to complete the blocks.

This month, April, I think will be the most difficult with 32 blocks of double half square triangles.  It’s a lot of HSTs to square up and a lot of lines to draw, BUT when they get sewn into rows, they are just the loveliest and really frame up our quilt.

There is also an optional fabric subscription you can receive right here.

With this subscription the fabrics are cut for you and shipped right to your front door each month!  Yes, all ready to sew.

This Month

Like I mentioned before there are 32 blocks to make.  These blocks get pieced into 8 rows of four blocks each.

Helpful tools:

What I think I like the most about this quilt along that differed from the others I’ve done is that the quilt gets sewn together as you go.  With some of the other’s at the end of all your block patterns you have all these blocks to put together, but in this quilt along we are doing all that along the way.  Next month that will start to show up more and you’ll see more of what I mean.

Also, isn’t it fun to make a quilt slowly like this.  It forces you not to be too quick or obsessed and you can take your time and mull things over.  It’s still a quilt along, so you also have that support and drive to stay on time and get things done.
