If you’ve been following along with me on IG then you probably seen all the pictures in this post before, but I wanted to show them to you here as well.
I’m going to chat a bit today about my newest quilt pattern (releasing 9/14) called Carolina Mingle.
Backstory
I’m a true lover of lone star quilts, but just haven’t had the time to make one. There is some difficult cutting and piecing and so I’ve put it off. I wanted to design a quilt that made me think of a lone star quilt, but didn’t have that complexity.
Last March, on a road trip home from Greenville, SC to Alabama, I drew up the Carolina Mingle quilt. You might remember the trip from here. I wanted the quilt to use strips (it appears I am a lover of strips if you see all my latest quilt patterns. Ha!), and I wanted a huge star.
After I got home from the trip, I drew the quilt up in Illustrator in all greens and pops of pinks.
Then, I just forgot all about it. I do this a lot by the way. You should see all the quilt patterns I’ve designed and not made.
Sharon Holland, whom you know I love, asked if she could send me her Signature fabrics and as soon as she did, I knew exactly what quilt they would go into.
So I rushed around trying to get the quilty math part completed so I could make the quilt top in time to take it with me on my travels.
I’ll admit to getting some peculiar looks from fellow tourists every time I whipped the quilt top out in Scotland’s otherworldly scenery. I’m sure I stuck out, but how could I not take pictures of the quilt while I was there?
For those wondering, this is the Fairy Glen on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. It was one of my favorite places we visited. Tucked within unspoiled fields upon fields of free ranging sheep was this tiny set of mountains and hills, dubbed the “fairy” glen because everything was so miniature compared to the surrounding areas.
The inukshooks (the rock formations) looked like little people from a distance.

Quilt Stats
- One size. Measures 66″ (but you could always add borders to it if you wanted a larger quilt).
- Very easy to make. This quilt is perfect for beginners or those wanting to learn new techniques to piecing those striped star columns
- I used all Signature fabrics from Sharon Holland. I discuss them in this blog post. I am ridiculously smitten with the fabrics too. I’ve got some leftovers and I want to make another quilt with them.
Just in case you are wondering, the quilt is pictured from the parking lot of the Eilean Donan castle in The Highlands, Scotland.

In the meantime, I still have to get this lovely quilted. I’ve chosen this thread. The thin thread was chosen so that it would create the yummy texture without standing out and distracting from the big ol’ star. I’ll do my usual tight meander.
