Quilt Reveal – Migration Quilt #4 – The one with all the Liberty + Low Volume

I am absolutely tickled pink to be showing you my fourth Migration quilt today.  Migration is a very simple quilt.  It can be very quickly made which makes it the perfect quilt for gift giving.

You can see my third version of this quilt here.  The other Migrations I made pre-date this blog.

Migration is the second pattern included in the Scrappy Pattern Pack.  This pattern set releases on October 30th.

Though it be simple, I think it’s a visual feast!  The first time I made this quilt was many, many years ago and it was inspired by a story told to me by my husband.  During his childhood, once a year, a monarch migration would come through his hometown.  He said you could stand under a tree and the butterflies would be covering it.  You’d give the tree a little shake and all the butterflies would take off at once and it was the most magical sight he’d ever seen.  I have this picture in my head of this happening and it’s breathtaking

This pattern is meant to combat your scraps!  I don’t know about you, but I have so many square cut fabrics.  I try to keep my scraps cut up best I can and I’ve got them organized by size.  Here’s a post about this very topic.  They pile up so fast and I’m always looking for ways to get them made into a quilt.  Migration will use those babies up!  The cool thing is that it uses multiple sizes, so no two quilts will look the same and you get this real random, modern look to your quilt.

I stepped outside my comfort zone with the quilting on this one.  I bought stencils and a pounce pad and traced the sweetest little birds. and then quilted around them with this elongated curl design. It took me twice as long as my trusty meander pattern.  And no, my birds are not that great.  Some of them are quite odd looking.  You know what though?  I so enjoyed learning something new.  It felt exciting and I wasn’t just getting the task done.  Fingers crossed I get better at it.  If you look closely at the pics above and below you can see one of my quirky birds.  I’ll have to keep practicing.  🙂
