Yesterday and today all I’ve done is edit edit edit. I have this lovely group of women testing #fernwehquilt with me. Getting it ready for you! Making sure to catch all my little typos and grammar issues, making sure I’ve drawn everything accurately, making sure it flows. Fingers crossed you’ll love it when everything is complete. 🤎

Pic is closeups of my original Fernweh. I quilted stilted feathers within the stars, lots of ditch work and a bit of orange peels. In the background is elongated curls, swirls and pebbles.

When I’m planning these out I try to plan where

When I’m planning these out I try to plan where I don’t have to raise my needle and cut my thread or stitch a ditch more than once, BUT… had a hard time working that out, as always. 😌
.
So in this design, there’s two ditches that get repeated. Oh well I guess. 😐
.
I spend a lot of time here on Instagram watching custom quilters do their thing and I’m always so impressed at how fluid they make it. And I have to remind myself that the 15 second video probably is just not showing that part of the process. Because no matter our planning, sometimes a ditch ends up quilted twice so I can get from A to B. 😊
.
Which made me think of the little basting video I posted the other day with all the comments about how easy I made it look. SO KNOW THIS:
•that 15 second video was actually a 40 minute task sped up on my iPhone
•I almost fell off the stool once because I leaned a little too far to the side
•my quilt top ended up being just a tiny smidgen crooked on my backing
•at one point I accidentally hit my hand on the ceiling tile, popping it out of place and later wade fussed when he had to fix it after I refused out of worry about spiders being up there
•the can leaked a bit and I had glue all over two of my fingers
•I took a 30 minute break after I finished because exhausted

I’m fairly new to variegated threads. In the past I wasn’t a fan, but I tried these neutral shades and ended up loving them particularly on pale backgrounds.
.
Now every time I’m going to be FMQing on a white background I pull them just for that. Maybe I should try some of other colors… 🤔 Are you a fan of variegated threads?
