Monday is all about Fabric – #68 – Some Yummy Low Volumes

What?  You don't have enough low volume fabrics in your life?  Me neither!

Let's look at a few I've put together and talk about how I never have enough of them.

The Landslide Quilt Pattern

Here’s what we are looking at today:

So you know the look I like for my quilts to have:  scrappy low volume.  Doesn't matter what colors I use in the quilt, but my background is usually scrappy low volume.  I can't seem to make a quilt without it, lately anyway.

Lately though, when I'm making a quilt and choosing my low volume fabrics for it, I've been trying to coordinate them to each other.  This bundle above was chosen specifically for how well they all played together.  Just another layer of fabric choosing, I think.

Let me know if you have been coordinating your low volume backgrounds as well.

This Week

On Wednesday, I'm sharing my latest Hand Cut Heart quilt with (fingers crossed) an updated tutorial.

Friday, I'll be talking about two threads from Superior Threads:  The Bottom Line + MicroQuilter.  I've discussed The Bottom Line in my big thread post, but I'm going to show you the difference when using a cheap thread to EPP and using the Bottom Line.  I think you'll be surprised at the difference if you've never tried it before.  The MicroQuilter is new to me.  I tried quilting with it and I'm going to show you some applique with it.  I think you'll be as impressed as I am.

Superior Threads is offering a $30 gift certificate to one of my readers in exchange for this post, so please come back Friday to read the post and learn how you can win.

Have a good week, friends!

  1. Oh yay! I love all of these low volumes and i know i need to use some to let all my colorful fabrics shine…but whenever i buy fabric (and i have been hoarding HARD lately, LOL!) All i want to buy is the fabulous colorful prints. AGF has been killing it lately with the collection releases!! Even Sharon Holland who usually does quite a bit low volume, her new Signature collection is FULL of beautiful colorful fabrics…..and i LOVE them all! Maybe i could just start buying the same low volume bundles as you, i always love them! But i am going to have to NOT let myself see any colorful fabrics when i do…..?? also, i have been wanting to try some superior threads, superinterested in your thoughts on them ?

    1. Ha! Well, I’m very different. I love low volumes with the same enthusiasm as colorful fabrics. Totally in agreement with you on Sharon Holland’s Signature line. I’m drooling and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I love Superior Threads. Did you catch my thread post a couple of weeks ago? Lots of details on my favorite threads. Have fun trying them!

  2. I’m a brand new quilter and I learned about low volume fabric from your blog. Thank you for that! I FINALLY assembled enough different low volume fabrics (that I LOVE) to start my hand cut hearts quilt so I can’t wait for Wednesday! Talk about perfect timing. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also have a good selection of fat quarters for my hand cut hearts that I’m drooling over. I’m still hunting for more fabric for Landslide and The Good Girl but number one on my to-do list is Hand Cut Hearts. That one really has my heart.

  3. I usually use the same low volume material through out my quilt but I love your choices. I am going to try your way next, once I collect more material!?
