There is a blog post up today about Sugar Bears fabric requirements. Link in profile and stories. If you are signed up for the quilt along (mar 17), you’ll have received an email from me about all this earlier.

I’m still new with this ruler work. This might b I’m still new with this ruler work. This might be the third quilt I’ve given a go with it. It is painfully slow (or at least on a domestic it is) but it’s hard to not see that it adds so much. This ruler work of mine is by no means perfect, but I definitely see a little growth. I finished a couple days ago and started on the free motion (my fave, swipe to see). I’ve been working on my skills at this for not two years yet, and it fINALLY looks like the clumsy clunky me I have complained about so often has been semi-replaced with a more confident me. This feels so good. 🤎 I’m loving the work on this #sugarbearquilt . 🤎 The only way to this place tho was through, with all the palm face moments, all the annoying mistakes, all the cringeing. I’ve said before that all the “ugly” quilts are so worthwhile. Ha!
🤎
I get a lot of messages and emails about FMQ. I have a small series on the blog (tutorials>FMQ). One day I’ll chat about the ruler work on there, but I just need more practice before I do. Still there are several tutorials if you are interested.
🤎
I have about a 1/4 left of the quilt to finish with the free motion. I’m adding feathers, succulents and elongated curls. I’m enjoying myself and I hope to finish today. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻
This is the work of the lovely talented @tracylouk This is the work of the lovely talented @tracyloukota . She’s testing #sugarbearquilt for me. 🥰 I just wanted to show you how fun the quilt can look with an emphasis on fussy cutting and with a scrappy LV background.
🤎
The pattern releases 3/8. And the quilt along begins 3/17. The pattern is currently available as a pre-order in paper format.
🤎
Alright, now let’s gush about how cute those fussies are and how Tracy is killing it!! 😍🥰💗🐻🌸👌🏻👏🏻🐻

I designed a ruler! The half rectangle triangle ruler + video tutorial

I have been waiting for this day for almost a year.  I designed a ruler for making half rectangle triangles last year while in the midst of the Bad Girl quilt along.  We were making all the HRTs with a paper template, do you remember?  So one day I sat down in Illustrator with a notebook and made ever line, every number, exactly what you see in the picture above.  It’s hard to believe that a file in my computer conjured up this tangible piece of acrylic.  Can you tell I’m excited? I asked Havel’s Sewing to manufacturer...

Friday Tuts – How to use the EZ Quilting Dresden Ruler ( video tutorial )

This is not a tutorial on how to make a Dresden quilt.  It’s a tutorial on how to use the Dresden ruler.  This ruler can be used to make many quilts.  The fabric pieces that this ruler cuts are called “blades” (not to be confused with rotary blades).  First things first, you will need to have a Dresden ruler.  You can purchase one here.  This ruler is inexpensive, very versatile, and comes with a hand dandy pointer creaser (for if you were making a Dresden quilt block) and a pattern.  Speaking of rulers, has anyone tried this?  It’s a...

How to use the Hex N More Ruler to cut half hexies + Quilt Reveal – Hexagon quilt #7

This ruler can be used for SO many things.  With this ruler you can make 4 different size hexagons and 4 different size equilateral triangles.  There is also some other shapes (a jewel) that I haven’t even explored yet.  In this tutorial I will show you how to use it to cut half hexies.  Buy your ruler here. I only like to buy rulers that I know I’ll be using for multiple quilts.  And I only like triangular rulers that have the notches.  This takes out all the guess work on your piecing. If you make a lot...

How To Piece Like a Rockstar – Part 2 – Make Better Half Square Triangles

This post has been edited to add in this video on 10/12/17.   I want to start this off my saying that you are making a quilt. The little things really don’t matter. Like if your points line up, or if your edges are wobbly, or if you have a pinch or two in your quilting. These little imperfections are okay. You are making something with your hands. The whole idea is to enjoy making the quilt, or snuggling up under the quilt or even giving the quilt to someone you love. It’s not to beat yourself up about....

How to make a hexagon quilt with half hexies – free quilt pattern – 5 different sizes

Hey, hey! This week is MY week of hexagons.  I have cut up 3 different hexagon quilts, one of them is for a  custom order you will see in this post.  Very scrappy.  Two more to come soon, one will be a new pattern.   I’ve been asked for a tutorial and pattern details for this hexagon quilt that uses half hexies.  This will be a LONG post, so let’s get right to it.  No history this time.     I am NOT in to spending money on rulers I don’t use.  I’ve made that mistake before, maybe more...
