FABRIC MONDAY

Monday is all about Fabric – #12 – Buck Forest

Happy Monday, Sweets! I am knee deep in all things deer right now, while working on a deer themed quilt. And for the occasion, I brought in some of my favorite deer fabric, BUCK FOREST. This print, in maybe two or three colorways first began in Bonnie Christine’s ‘Hello, Bear’ fabric line. But since then,…

Scrapping Star Block Tutorial

This star block is the block I made from this quilt I discussed yesterday. If you are sitting on top of pile of scraps consisting of 2.5″ and 3″ squares, along with some low volume strips, this one is for you! I don’t know about you, but my 2.5″ and all even numbered squares, I…

Happy Mistakes – Quilt Reveal – Scrapping Stars Quilt

You remember me mentioning this.  Well, I found in a basket these little four patches.  I’m certain I was planning to make stars, but that is where my certainty ends.  I had lots of little pieces cut up besides the little 4-patches.  I do remember where my inspiration for this block comes from. The cut…

How to Piece like a Rockstar – Part 3 – Nesting Seams + Pressing Tips

This post has been edited to add in this video on 10/12/17.   I want to start this off my saying that you are making a quilt. The little things really don’t matter. Like if your points line up, or if your edges are wobbly, or if you have a pinch or two in your…

Wandering Quilt – Kathy’s kitschy quilt + an update on the honey bee quilt

Just in case you are not familiar with traveling quilts here is the idea: Each member of your group creates a starter block and usually writes a journal with details, theme and style they would like their quilt to end up. You send your starter block to another member in your group (usually there is…

Monday is all about Fabric #11 – Cotton and Steel

I did not get any new fabric in last week (its a miracle!). What did arrive is somebody else’s stash that I will talk more about tomorrow. I’ve never had so much Cotton and Steel prints at one time, so I thought I should use it for our featured fabric this week. Pretty luscious, huh?…

I really, really enjoyed quilting this grid 💛 I m I really, really enjoyed quilting this grid 💛

I made the lines a little bigger this time than I did on my sample, and I ended up loving the extra space and texture it gave the quilt. It’s technically a one-inch grid, except for the rectangle happening in the center.

I marked the whole thing with a Hera marker before quilting, this was one of those really relaxing sewing sessions where you just settle in and stitch for a while.

Chapter 3 of the Morning Rising Mini Quilt Class i Chapter 3 of the Morning Rising Mini Quilt Class is now available ✂️

In this chapter, we’re marking the quilt with a Hera marker and quilting the background using simple straight line quilting and a walking foot. We’re quilting the background before attaching the Dresden plate, which gives the finished mini such a pretty layered look and keeps the quilting process really manageable.

I sat down thinking I was just going to sew a little bit, and before I knew it, the whole background block was finished and basted. Yes to easy sewing days ✂️

In this chapter, we’re building the background block that the Dresden plate will eventually sit on, beginning with the center nine-patch and working outward to complete the block.

A few little snapshots from Chapter 1 💛 Everythin A few little snapshots from Chapter 1 💛

Everything is pressed, cut, organized, and ready to sew. I spent a lot of time thinking about these fabrics before cutting into them, and now that it’s all laid out beside the machine, I’m getting really excited to start piecing.

Honestly, this part always feels a little magical to me. Like the quiet moment right before the quilt starts becoming real ✂️ Cabinet and chair from @arrowsewing

We’ve begun 💛 Chapter 1 of the Morning Rising mini We’ve begun 💛 Chapter 1 of the Morning Rising mini quilt class is now available, and I’m so excited to start this one with you.

The pattern is included with the class, and today we’re getting everything ready to sew, choosing fabrics, organizing pieces, and getting comfortable with the project before we jump in.

Also, I’m weirdly excited about the straight line quilting in this one 😅 I don’t do it nearly enough, but it’s so relaxing and satisfying once you get going. I cannot wait for you to try it too.
