How to Piece like a Rockstar – Part 3 – Nesting Seams + Pressing Tips

This post has been edited to add in this video on 10/12/17.   I want to start this off my saying that you are making a quilt. The little things really don’t matter. Like if your points line up, or if your edges are wobbly, or if you have a pinch or two in your…

Wandering Quilt – Kathy’s kitschy quilt + an update on the honey bee quilt

Just in case you are not familiar with traveling quilts here is the idea: Each member of your group creates a starter block and usually writes a journal with details, theme and style they would like their quilt to end up. You send your starter block to another member in your group (usually there is…

Lately – End of April, Early May

I am late with my ‘lately’ post.  Whoops! You can read the last Lately post here. I don’t like the weeks and months passing by in blurs, but sometimes it’s really hard to control. But I’ve been taking moments and purposely making them slow.  Doing with my hands, very S L O W movements.  Most…

A Quilt Maker’s Terminology

When I first started quilting back in 2008, there was so much to learn.  I’m still learning, constantly.  There is a never ending well of information to grasp in the quilting world. Learning what all the words in a pattern or blog post mean felt like it would take forever.  I’d read the quilt pattern,…

Quilt Beginnings – Quote Quilt and all the supplies

Inspiration. It’s a pretty amazing feeling.  I don’t always have it, but when I do it almost feels like my mind is soaring. Ideas.  Feelings.  Excitement. There is usually a beginning. From about this past November – January, I was reading The Lord of the Rings books.  I know, I know.  I used to hate…

Photo 1: I used to work so hard trying to get flyi Photo 1: I used to work so hard trying to get flying geese to come out the exact right size. Every time. Now I just make them a little bigger and trim them down, the same way we do half square triangles. So much easier. So much cleaner. Being open to changing your method… even after years of doing it one way matters.Photo 2: And this paper plate system? I didn’t expect to love it this much. One plate per block. Everything I need, all in one spot. If I have time for one block, I grab one plate. If I have time for three, I grab three. Less mess. Less digging. More sewing. quiltyclass.com
