✂️ Tips for Sewing Hourglass Blocks

Hourglass blocks can look deceptively simple, but here are a few tips to help you get clean, sharp results every time:

1. Starch your fabric before cutting. This helps reduce stretching when sewing or trimming.
2. Use a scant ¼” seam allowance. It makes a big difference in keeping your finished units the correct size.
3. Press seams open or to one side with intention. Consider how blocks will join up later and press accordingly.
4. Trim carefully. Use a square ruler and line up that center X precisely. This will keep your hourglass crisp and centered in your quilt.
5. Chain piece for efficiency. Once you get going, these blocks fly by!
