Weβre diving into the Hourglass Blocks, which include:

In this section, youβll be learning how to create hourglass units two at a time. An efficient and accurate method that helps keep your pieces nice and consistent. The result is a bold, intersecting shape that adds movement and symmetry to your quilt. It’s one of those blocks that looks super impressive but is surprisingly beginner-friendly once you know the trick!

βοΈ Tips for Sewing Hourglass Blocks
Hourglass blocks can look deceptively simple, but here are a few tips to help you get clean, sharp results every time:
- Starch your fabric before cutting. This helps reduce stretching when sewing or trimming.
- Use a scant ΒΌβ seam allowance. It makes a big difference in keeping your finished units the correct size.
- Press seams open or to one side with intention. Consider how blocks will join up later and press accordingly.
- Trim carefully. Use a square ruler and line up that center X precisely. This will keep your hourglass crisp and centered in your quilt.
- Chain piece for efficiency. Once you get going, these blocks fly by!
