FMQ – Quilting the Little Maple Mini Quilt

The Little Maple Mini Quilt is such a fun project to finish, and today I am sharing a look at how I quilted mine. This video is pulled from my Cozy Fall Stitches class inside Quilty Club, and while the class walks through every step of making this mini, this post focuses only on the quilting segment. If you are curious about how I approached the design or want inspiration for your own quilting, I think you will enjoy watching this one come together.
Below you will find the full video where I show the exact quilting motifs I used. I kept the maple leaves clean and tidy inside the blocks and then had a little fun with the outer sections.
Happening Soon
Quilt As Desired begins December 1st.
In Quilt As Desired, we’ll work through 25 FMQ designs together and create a soft rag quilt filled with your progress. You can join through QuiltyClub or purchase the class on its own.
Let’s make quilts…
Watch the Quilting Video
In the video, you will see me start by stitching in the ditch around both maple leaf blocks. That just helps clean up the shape and hold everything in place before I get into the fun quilting. Inside the blocks, I keep things pretty simple and neat. Once the leaves are outlined, I move to the outer sections and that is where I play a little more. I quilt feathers running up both sides of the quilt, and each plume switches direction so the feathers look a bit playful and loose.
The mix works really well. The maple leaves look crisp and tidy, and the feathers add movement and a little personality around the edges.
Quilting Motifs Used
- Stitch in the ditch around each maple leaf
- Keeps the piecing sharp and lets the leaf shapes stand out.
- Clean piecing lines inside the blocks
- Nothing too busy here so that the feathers can shine.
- Feathers with alternating plumes
- These travel up both sides of the quilt and bring texture, motion, and a handmade charm that pairs beautifully with the fall theme.

A Final Note
Small quilts like this one are the perfect place to play with different quilting ideas. The Little Maple Mini Quilt gave me room to keep things neat in the center and then go bold around the edges, and the finished mix feels so satisfying. I hope this video gives you some inspiration for your own projects and encourages you to try something new with your quilting.
