Quilt Reveal – Little Miss Sawtooth Quilt – #8 – The Sunset One
The stars aligned and all timing fell into place that I received a commission order for a Little Miss Sawtooth quilt at the same time I needed to make all of the video tutorials for the quilt along that starts this September. I fed two birds with one scone. So yay!
I don’t know that this is my favorite version of this quilt that I’ve made, but it’s up there. I loved the color palette which was kinda chosen by the lady who commissioned this one. She gave me a picture of a sunset, a dark and moody sunset, and then a list of colors I was not to use.
I had a very hard time with colors because of that list, but I ended up really being happy with my fabric choices.
The Next Quilt Along starts this September!
In the picture above is the latest version of the Little Miss Sawtooth quilt with all the new blocks included, although this one has been a bit resized. My buyer wanted it in a twin size, so there is an additional 5 star blocks. I duplicated a few. I do wish I’d used a bit more of the grays in this one, but overall I’m pleased with it.
At the end of making a quilt when I take my pictures of them, I like to sit back and look and critique myself. Take notice of things I did or didn’t do. I feel like this helps me get better as a quilt maker. If I’m doing that on this quilt, I would say that I don’t like those dark low volume squares. I thought it would look nice with my moody fabric choices, but I’m not really a fan after all. I mentioned I wished I had used more gray. Also, I wish I’d use more of that orangy pink. It kinda stands out that I only used a few times and if I’d have used it a few more, it would be more well rounded I think.
I love the inclusion of the taupe colored low volume squares in the background. I also like the few blocks that have the pops of bright white within the inner star unit. I’m also a big fan of the bright fuchsia and the light gray colorings.
The Little Miss Sawtooth Star Quilt Paper Pattern
This is my 8th version of this quilt! I can’t believe I’ve made it so many times. Feels obsessive. But I don’t have a single one that I’ve made. All have gone to other homes. I’m hoping to keep my next one that I make with you during the quilt along for myself. I’ve chosen to make mine in the Autumn Joy fabric bundle. Corals and peaches are my favorites of colors and I think that along with the pinks and golds, the quilt will end up a favorite of mine.

Along with all the blocks I tested, I also got to test out the new label made to go with this quilt. It’s def one of my favorites.
Also, the backing! I’ve said this before, but I can be really an oddball sometimes. This refusing to use fabrics on the front of my quilt for the backing and binding is a fairly new development for me. We all have our pet peeves. This one goes back a few years.
The pink floral I felt captured all the colors from the front of my quilt and the mosaic looking fabric just looked magical and had to be used. Neither was used on the front as per my unusual pet peeve self.

Thanks for reading along. I am so excited to start the quilt along next month and make this quilt with you. September can’t get here soon enough.
This is gorgeous and has solidified my thinking on my color palette for my QAL quilt. Not quite the same, but close enough to be sure. We always learn something from our projects, don’t we?
Yes!!
