Friends! Last week I was gifted a wool pressing mat from Nido Goods. I have been wanting one ALL YEAR LONG. Anything that might help me improve making quilts is something I want. I’d heard so many good things, and knew I wanted to give it a try, but just hadn’t done it yet. Now I know what I’ve been missing!
There’s so many things to know about them, but I’ll give you a summary.
Wool holds heat, so when you press your patchwork piece with your iron, it heats the wool as well, which means what you are pressing is getting heated from both sides. The result is a flatter unit or block and in much quicker time too. I have found the speed at which my blocks get pressed are definitely faster than with my ironing board.
The fabric tends to cling to wool too, so you don’t have blocks sliding away from you.
The mat itself is really thick, which means I can put this anywhere, any surface and not have to worry about burning the table underneath.
Wool doesn’t stain. I don’t know about you, but I have to change my ironing board cover every few years, because of how badly it gets stained. Not to mention that the batting or padding on my board get thin and worn down with use.
I absolutely love this mat. I love it so much that I folded my ironing board up and put it away. I don’t see me using it again. I just put the wool mat close by and can now iron and press anywhere. I’m impressed by the quality of the item too. It feels lush and thick and makes me feel fancy using it. Ha! 🙂
I received the 17×24″ mat and it’s plenty of space for me to press a whole quilt top too. There’s a bit more maneuvering than with the old ironing board, but worth it because of more stability and just a better and quicker press.
I cannot believe I waited so long to try one and I’m so grateful that I have it now.
There’s also a 13.5″ square mat option that might be good for traveling around with or just having right by my machine for things that need to be pressed quickly without getting up.
Winnie from Nido Goods has given me a coupon code for my readers! You’ll receive 15% off your wool pressing mat when you use it. The code is SCQ15OFF. How sweet is that!?
