Monday is all about Fabric – #12 – Buck Forest

Happy Monday, Sweets!

I am knee deep in all things deer right now, while working on a deer themed quilt.

And for the occasion, I brought in some of my favorite deer fabric, BUCK FOREST.

This print, in maybe two or three colorways first began in Bonnie Christine’s ‘Hello, Bear’ fabric line.

But since then, it has multiplied into so many colorways that there is definitely one in the color you need it to be.

There is even ‘tiny buck forest’ now where all the deer are smaller, plus it comes in multiples of substrates, canvas, voile, knit, etc.

Art Gallery Fabrics has Buck Forest featured in a new Fusion line due out in July that might just blow your mind. ย Have a look here and you are welcome.

Was that not stunning? ย MUST GET MY HANDS ON THOSE.

Now let me show you something else or rather, someone else who loves Buck Forest and does some amazing things to this particular fabric.

This is a picture from the IG feed of Cheri Lehnow aka Tinkerellen. ย She apparently loves Buck Forest, it’s the star in many of her embroideries. ย See specifically all her Buck Forest lovelies.

She sells her embroideries, patterns, needle minders and more in her Etsy shop here. ย I’ve done a swap with her once, and she is just the sweetest person and MINDBLOWINGLY creative.

So I mentioned I’m working on a deer themed quilt. ย Yep.

And it is coming along. ย I’ve gotten the hard part out of the way.

She was the hard part. ย This is Violet Crafts Forest Abstractions pattern.

Let me be clear that it was not hard, it was time consuming. ย Every. ย Single. ย Step.

But the coolest things usually are.

She has a friend.

Believe it or not, he was not as difficult as the doe. ย His pieces are bigger. ย Once I got past his antlers I moved right along.

I had to take my pattern to a paper store and have the pages copied on to 11×14″ paper, this way the original stays with me and I always have it.

I used my seam ripper enough times to get to know each other on the personalest of levels. ย I kept having trouble with the pointed pieces, but it all worked out and all my points lined up almost perfectly. ย There a couple of places that I don’t think most will notice. ย EEk!

I don’t want to paper piece for a very long time!

And here is how I used Buck Forest for this quilt.

Mind you this is not the final layout, I’m just throwing things up on the design wall for now. ย And Buck Forest will make a few more appearances before I’m done.

This is going to be one of those quilts where I’m just winging it, but more details on this later in the week.
