Quilt Basting Methods for Beginners

When it is time to start quilting, a good baste makes all the difference. In this video, I am showing you the two quilt basting methods I use the most, and they both work for any quilt project, big or small. These are the same steps I teach inside Cozy Fall Stitches, and if you have ever felt unsure about how to keep your quilt layers from shifting, this will clear things up and help you feel more confident moving forward.
You will see me walk through the process from the very beginning, smoothing out the backing, adding the batting, and placing the quilt top. Then I will show you how to secure everything with curved pins, followed by how to spray baste using 505. Both are simple once you see them done, and it is always nice to have a choice depending on what you are working on.

Why Basting Matters
Basting is not the most glamorous part of quilting, but it changes everything about how your quilting turns out. A well basted quilt will stay smooth and flat while you stitch, and that means fewer headaches and way better results. Pin basting is slow but secure. Spray basting is fast and great for small projects. Try both and see what fits your style.
