The posts in this series are all part of the pattern, Anthologie. These are not tutorials or how to videos, but are of me making this quilt. It’s meant to be similar to a self guided quilt along and hopefully feel like we are making this quilt together (even if you are finding this years later). Do tag me on Instagram (@southerncharmquilts)! I’d love to see what you do with it. 🙂
I am bubbling over with pleasure and excitement. We end up with a finished flimsy after we do this section! It does come together a bit awkwardly. I say that because you must first work on the first section of Crazy Plant Lady, then you put the whole quilt top together and THEN you get to do the second section of Crazy Plant Lady.
I went back to the same applique method I used in Inspiration Collage which was the adhesive (this way I don’t have to stitch them down until I quilt). I did embroider my stem for both sections.
I’ve chosen my fabrics when this video starts. I knew I wanted to choose something a bit darker, so that my leaves stand out from the rest of my quilt. I also didn’t have a large enough piece of fabric for section 1’s background, so I ended piecing two together to get it. 🙂 It happens. Then, I embroider my stem, adhere the Heat n Bond to my leaf fabric and draw the little leaves all over the adhesive, then cut them out. After that I place them where I want them to go and iron them to get them to stick. Next, we start quilt building, the whole quilt top. Then, we embroidery section 2’s stem and add the leaves once more. What you don’t see in this video is after I stepped back and had a look at my work, I realized that I have that same gold color already at the top of my quilt and it ends up looking a bit much. So I pick about half the leaves off of the top Crazy Plant Lady. I liked this much better.
I have so enjoyed making this quilt. It really has helped me work through the slump I’ve been finding myself in. I am very eager to quilt this baby up. I’ll probably start on it immediately, well, after I go back and forth over my backing a thousand times. 🙂 Lots of love to you!
