It’s been awhile since I posted a quilt reveal. I’m almost ashamed. To be fair to myself, I have finished other quilts, but it hasn’t been anything new that I’d want to show you. It’s just been me filling custom quilt orders that you’ve seen me make before. This one’s a bit different though. It is made with somebody’s husband’s clothing. This kind of quilt is always so meaningful to me. It was mostly men’s dress shirts and slacks, a few Hawaiian shirts, some jeans. I mixed them all with low volumes for a checkerboard design. I couldn’t resist...

One way that I store scraps is by squares. I have a bin for each different size from 2″ – 7″. When one bin gets full, it’s time to do something with them. For me, the easiest and most surest way to completely wipe that bin out is just by making a simple patchwork quilt. It really does get the job done without any stress. Sometimes the easy quilt is exactly what you need. I like to burn a little lavender oil, put on some music, and zone out while chain piecing. Tiny Patch quilt #1 Tiny Patch quilt...
Hey, hey! Have you ever been given a quilt of a gift? I have only been given one, and it was my great grandmother’s. My heart sung that day. I grew up in a house where there were no quilts. I remember them at my grandparent’s house, but none lived with us. These days, I am remedying that and filling every square inch of my house with quilts. Come here and you will find a quilt on every bed. I think the vast majority of people do not spend as much time as I do thinking and petting handmade...
The definition of a scrap quilt – a quilt created out of several pieces of various fabrics, frequently these pieces are extra pieces of fabric from past quilting projects. I finished this quilt this weekend. You might remember me discussing this quilt and my scrap fabric storing system. If not, that post is here and includes the quilt pattern for this quilt above. It feels good to use my scraps. It means I’m not wasting fabric and money. It’s also a weight lifted. Let’s face it, when things are sitting around without a purpose they start eating at us....
The posts in this series are all part of the pattern, Sugar Bear. These are not tutorials or how to videos, but are of me making this quilt. It’s meant to be similar to a self guided quilt along and hopefully feel like we are making this quilt together (even if you are finding this years later). Do tag me on Instagram (@southerncharmquilts)! I’d love to see what you do with it. 🙂 All Posts in this Series Claws Anabel Cristina Lizbeth Jessalyn Imani Rita Mae Maya Eloise Ruth Ann Today we are tackling...
The post in this series are all part of the 2021 Sugar Bear Quilt Along. To view all posts in this series, click here. Finally time to go over fabric and supplies! I know so many of you have been waiting for this and I really appreciate your patience. Having this quilt along this close to the pattern release has really bummed you big planners out. I’ll remember this next time, I promise! I’m just trying to squeeze this quilt along and the late summer Little Miss quilt along into the same year and well, it’s been...
If you missed my previous post on Para Para, you can find it here. I’m back at it and hoping to finish by the week’s end. Fingers crossed. I’m always behind on my plans, but as you can see from above I’m pretty close to having a finished quilt top. What you don’t see in this picture, is that stool at the bottom that I’m teetering haphazardly on trying to get a flat lay picture from way too high. Ha! My design walls just can’t seem to hold this one. Thanks for showing up here today, let’s get...

Next Wednesday, I’m releasing my first set of scrappy patterns called Scrappy Pattern Pack. With that pattern you get three limited quilt patterns: Trippy, Migration, and Tea Time. In preparation, I thought I’d post all about what a scrappy quilt is. I have found this is surprisingly different depending on who you talk to, but what I think we can all agree on is that it’s a quilt with way more different fabrics included then what a quilter would normally use. So while I’ll be explaining to you what a scrappy quilt is to me know that it’s...
I’m not sure that I’ve ever loved one of my quilts more. This is my color this year. Can’t say I’ve ever loved the color gold before, but gosh right now, all the quilts want to be gold. The only reason some of them are not is because I’m forcing myself to chill out. Gimme all your gold fabrics! Let’s talk/gush about Trippy Quilt! This is my third version of this quilt pattern. Find my first one here, my second one here and you can see the quilt top in progress for the...
