For those just beginning to quilt, basic squares are one of the simplest piecing methods to learn. The Checkie pattern provides ample opportunity to practice those skills, while also using up plenty of stash fabric and allowing for color play. while Checkie is easy and basic, its simplicity is also beautiful.

The overall design in Checkie was written to play with contrast between light and dark colors. Still, it would also look beautiful with complimentary colors like purples and blues or oranges and. yellows, etc. or throw color placement completely to the wind and sew strips together at random to see what emerges!
