How To Spray Baste a Quilt on the Wall (video tutorial)

Hello, everyone! I am so, SO happy you are here!  Today I have a basting tutorial for you and it’s a basting method I’ve been using since 2013 and I just love it so much.  I’ve been asked about it many times, but I’ve never been able to properly show it due to the…

do. Good Stitches – Emerge Circle – The Pineapple Blocks Tutorial

Emerge Circle is a group of 11 quilt makers (including myself) dedicated to making quilts for those in need.  Our aim is to donate 10 quilts per year.  Our circle is part of the bigger group of charity quilters called do. Good Stitches.  You can read about it and it’s creator Rachel Hauser here. Every…

What is birthing a quilt? (and tutorial)

I don’t like the name of this.  Birthing a quilt.  Who named this process that?  I definitely prefer calling it the ‘inside out method’. I was asked to make a quilt without any batting, so that it would be thin for a photography prop.  And promptly decided that this would be the perfect time to…

Friday Tuts – Granny Square Block Tutorial

Friday’s tutorial this week is one of my favorite quilt blocks. Several years ago, a little after my love affair with crochet began and I started making pinterest boards about it, I finally sat down and let my grandmother teach me. It’s slow, time consuming and utterly relaxing.  And it’s for me.  I rarely share…

Scrapping Star Block Tutorial

This star block is the block I made from this quilt I discussed yesterday. If you are sitting on top of pile of scraps consisting of 2.5″ and 3″ squares, along with some low volume strips, this one is for you! I don’t know about you, but my 2.5″ and all even numbered squares, I…

How To Piece Like a Rockstar – Part 2 – Make Better Half Square Triangles

This post has been edited to add in this video on 10/12/17.   I want to start this off my saying that you are making a quilt. The little things really don’t matter. Like if your points line up, or if your edges are wobbly, or if you have a pinch or two in your…

In Chapter 3, we work on three designs that are id In Chapter 3, we work on three designs that are ideal for borders and sashing:Swirls in a borderSwirls are a classic FMQ design, but they are not the easiest to master. When I first started quilting, my swirls were always a little too pointy or just kind of strange looking. Honestly, mine still sometimes come out a little funky. That’s okay. We stitch anyway and keep building that rounded movement.Ribbon candyRibbon candy is beautiful and traditional, but let’s just say it can feel a bit hard. We try a looser approach too, and I show you a version I used in the borders of my Dilly Dally quilt that I absolutely love.Wishbone loopsWishbones are a personal favorite. I usually quilt them as a filler, especially inside flower centers. In this chapter, we take that familiar design and try it in a border space to give it a new role.Join in at Quilty Club - http://www.quiltyclub.com/
