Practicing Hand Quilting Stitches on a Pincushion (No Perfection Required)

If you’ve been wanting to try hand quilting stitches but feel intimidated by working on a full quilt, a pincushion is a great place to start. In today’s video, I’m sharing a snippet from my Quilt-As-You-Go Pincushion Party class, where I add some decorative X stitches to the top of my finished pincushion. These tiny projects make the perfect testing ground for new techniques. Low pressure, fast finishes, and zero guilt if things don’t turn out perfectly.

To be completely honest, my X stitches in this video are kind of sloppy. I don’t do them very often, and I debated cutting that part out. But I left them in because I think it’s important to show that stitching doesn’t have to be flawless to be beautiful. This is creative time, not perfection time.

I hope it encourages you to try something new and not worry so much about the outcome. It’s just a pincushion, and it’s yours.

Let’s make a quilt…
