Chapter 2 of the Faefolk Quilt Class is now live, and this section is all about cutting our fabrics. I decided to expand this part of the class a little more than usual so that even brand-new quilters can start with no prior skills. Cutting is one of the most important steps in quilting, and when it’s done with care, it makes piecing so much easier and more accurate.

In Chapter 2, you’ll find five lessons that walk you through each part of the cutting process:

• Lesson 5: Preparing Fabrics
  • We’ll use a pressing spray and iron to get our fabrics crisp. This simple step means your fabrics will cut more cleanly and accurately, and you won’t have to work as hard when you begin piecing.
• Lesson 6: Basic Cutting Demo
  • We’ll cut strips together and then sub-cut them into smaller pieces. This is a great place to start if you’ve never cut fabric before.
• Lesson 7: Cutting Fat Quarters
  • I’ll show you how to stack your “C” fabrics three or four layers deep so you can cut multiple fat quarters at once. This saves time and helps keep your pieces consistent.
• Lesson 8: Cutting Squares
  • We’ll prepare the “D” fabrics, cut them into strips, and then sub-cut those into squares. This is a building block skill you’ll use again and again in quilting.
• Lesson 9: Cutting Background Fabric
  • Finally, I’ll demonstrate how to handle a large piece of background fabric while keeping your cuts accurate and manageable.
