Chapter 6 of Soulshine Quilt Class – Quilting and Finishing

We’ve reached the final chapter of the Soulshine Quilt Class, and this one was a big one.

Chapter 6 is all about quilting the quilt, and it took a little longer to get through. Life had a few interruptions along the way, but we stayed with it, and now I’m done quilting.

Lesson 15 — The Quilting Plan

We begin by talking through the plan.

This is where we decide how we want the quilt to feel. How the foreground and background will work together. What kind of movement we want across the surface.

Taking a little time here makes everything else feel more intentional.

Happening Now

Soulshine Quilt Class

What we’re making:
The Soulshine Quilt, a beginner-friendly star quilt made with two simple blocks.

About this class:
In this class, we’ll work through fabric prep, block construction, layout, and hands-on quilting techniques. You can choose a scrappy or modern version and move at your own pace as we quilt the project together inside Quilty Class.

Timeline:
We’ll begin around February 15 and wrap up sometime in March.

Let’s make quilts…

Lesson 16 — Quilting the Foreground

Next, we quilt the stars.

Most of the foreground quilting is geometric, clean lines that help define the star shapes. The only exception is the very center, where I added a flower design to soften that space just a bit.

Lessons 17, 18, and 19 — Background Quilting

The background quilting is where most of the time went in this chapter, so I broke it into three parts.

Part one is a slower walkthrough where I move through the designs, working around the stars and keeping the background quilting separate from the foreground.

The designs here are very botanical and flowy, which gives a nice contrast to the structure of the stars.

Part two shows how I move through the quilt in sections. I start in one corner, work my way down the side, move through the center, and continue toward the next corner. Always working in a way that keeps things manageable and keeps the quilting flowing.

Part three is a quieter video. No talking, just quilting. Slightly sped up so you can simply watch the process if that’s what you’re in the mood for.

Lesson 20 — Finishing the Quilt

In the final lesson, I complete the quilting and share the finished quilt.

This is always my favorite part. Seeing everything come together, the piecing, the quilting, the texture, all in one piece.

This chapter brings the Soulshine quilt class to its finish.

It’s been a full journey, from the first cuts of fabric all the way through the final stitches, and I’ve loved seeing your versions come to life along the way. Quiltyclass.com
