Swayful Quilty Class: Chapter 4 — Building the Border

Chapter 4 of the Swayful Quilty Class is now available, and this is one of those chapters that comes together quickly.

With all of the blocks finished, it’s time to build the border that frames the quilt and carries the movement all the way to the edges. The border is one of my favorite parts of the Swayful design because it feels like a natural continuation of the quilt instead of something that’s simply added around the outside.

A Simple Construction

This chapter is made up entirely of snowball units, making it one of the easiest sections of the quilt to sew.

We’ll make two different border units:

• The corner units, which each have one snowballed corner.
• The border units, which each have two snowballed corners.

Since every unit is constructed the same way, this is a great opportunity to settle into a rhythm and enjoy the sewing process.

Batch Sewing the Border

Rather than making one unit at a time, I’ll show you how I work through the border using a batch sewing approach.

We’ll snowball all of the required corners first, then press and trim the units before moving on to the next step. It’s a simple workflow that keeps everything organized and makes quick work of the border pieces.

One Step Closer

By the end of this chapter, your border units will be complete and ready to join the quilt. It’s a satisfying milestone because the finish line is finally starting to come into view.
