The Light in the Dark Mini Quilt Class is getting underway, and Chapter 1 is ready! Before we start piecing this 14″ x 14″ mini quilt, we’re spending a little time getting familiar with the class, looking through the pattern, choosing fabrics, and getting everything cut and organized. I’m using my Happy Home collection.

What’s Inside Chapter 1?

Chapter 1 is all about getting prepared so that when it’s time to sit down at the sewing machine, everything is ready to go.

Here’s what we’re covering:

Lesson 1 – About the Light in the Dark Mini Quilt Class

We’ll take a look at the mini quilt and talk about what you’ll be learning throughout the class. Light in the Dark is a confident beginner project featuring a 9 patch center and half rectangle triangles that create the star points.

We’ll also talk about the free motion quilting portion of the class and how we’ll work through the quilting one section at a time.

Lesson 2 – Using Quilty Class

If you’re new to Quilty Class, this lesson will show you around. We’ll look at how the class is organized, where to find your lessons and resources, and how to move through the class at your own pace.

Lesson 3 – Downloading and Understanding the Pattern

Grab your copy of the Light in the Dark Mini Quilt pattern, and we’ll take a closer look at how it’s organized and how the quilt comes together.

This is a good time to read through the pattern before cutting or sewing anything.

Lesson 4 – Choosing and Preparing Fabrics

Next, we’ll talk about fabric choices for Light in the Dark and how the different fabrics work within the design.

We’ll also get our fabrics prepared and ready for cutting.

Lesson 5 – Cutting + Organizing Your Pieces

Finally, we’ll cut everything we need for the mini quilt and get those pieces organized.

Taking a little time to organize now makes the piecing process so much easier once we start working through the quilt top.

Coming Up Next

Once you’ve worked through Chapter 1, you’ll have your pattern downloaded, your fabrics chosen, and all of your pieces cut and organized.

Then we’ll be ready to move into making the Light in the Dark Mini Quilt top, including that 9 patch center and those half rectangle triangle star points. I’ll also show you my easy HRT trimming method using washi tape and Sharpie dots on your ruler.
