I have been working on this Tea Time quilt for two months now. 729 half square triangles make up the front. YES! You’ve read that right! 729! I did strip piece them so that made it go a bit faster.

About this Tea Time
This version of Tea Time is a lot larger than the one in the pattern. I believe it’s a twin size pattern, but I made a king size quilt this time around. This was a commissioned quilt. All blues and some earth tones were requested.
What I like about this quilt and what I like about many of my earlier quilt patterns is the scrappy dynamic included. Instead of planning out fat quarters or yardage, you are given instructions of how many “strips” you need. This to me, is such a great way to clean out your stash!
Here’s my method: I opened up my blues stash drawer (all my stash is in an old dresser) and just started pulling fabrics that looked good together and had blue in them. THAT’S IT! Then, I went into the browns drawer (which is actually only about a half a drawer) and pulled a few of those too. I had this whole massive stack of fabrics. I got them all pressed and starched and then I started cutting strips. I kept a running total as I did this and when I reached the total, no more strips. There were some leftovers that went back in stash, but most of all that was left ended up in my scrap bins.
Keeping with that very tight color palette of almost blues only, made choosing fabrics REALLY easy! You may notice if you’ve been following along in this space for a while that I make a lot of almost monochrome quilts. THEY ARE EASIER! Plus again, it’s a good way to use up one of those stash drawers that is getting out of hand.
Quilt Details:
Pattern – Tea Time Quilt (can be found in the Scrappy Pattern Pack Pattern. I altered this pattern! Instead of using the amount of strips stated in the pattern, I used (122) width of fabric strips (42″).

So no more half square triangles for a while PLEASE! Lol. I’ve had my fill for sure! If you are looking for a half square triangle method this pattern uses a strip piecing method for them that is SO FAST! You can find some basic HST methods here though.
Melanie, this is beautiful. I made this quilt a long time ago, but not this big. I need to make another in all blues.
