I am over the moon to announce this. I thought after making this quilt, 7 or 8 times?, that would be enough for me, but apparently not. That last one I did, sealed my fate. Plus, you keep emailing me and hounding me for a PDF pattern, so ….. I’m ready to make it with you! Again!
So let’s recap all of this for anyone that is new around here. Little Miss Sawtooth was a quilt I designed back in 2017 and immediately hosted my first ever quilt along for. It was tiny, only a handful of quilters made it with me. I’ve since made this quilt a whole bunch more times.
- The original – The one from the 2017 quilt along
- Second version – the crib one that looks alot like the original
- Third version – The one made from men’s dress shirts
- Fourth version – The turquoise and green one
- Fifth version – The purple one
- Sixth version – The blue and green and turquoise version
- Seventh version – The coral and mint one
- 8th, 9th and 10th versions – The ones we made together and gave to someone in need
- Little Miss quilts from other quilters

When
The quilt along starts September 6, 2019, with the last pattern releasing January 10, 2020.
Where
The quilt along will take place at The Sew Creative Blog on the Havel’s website. There will be posts on my site as well, but will point you back to Havel’s.
What you need to do
You can RSVP to the quilt along here. RSVPing will sign you up to a newsletter where you can get reminders and nudges when the quilt along begins (you can also opt out if life gets in the way). After signing up you will receive an email immediately with a link for you to click to officially be added to the list. I will be providing a coloring sheet and an Introduction to the quilt that will include supplies and fabric requirements in early August.
Make sure you are following me on Instagram here and that you are following Havel’s Sewing here. There will be random announcements there.
Who Can Join
YOU can! Yes, you. No matter who you are, where you’re from, or what you do, YOU are welcome here.
Are There Prizes?
Yes, how did you know? Every other week, with each pattern release Havel’s will be giving away a sweet prize to one lucky winner that posts a picture of their progress on Instagram. The tool will probably be something we could use with that week’s block pattern.
Havel’s has some of the sharpest cutting tools on the market. Visit their shop here.
Hashtags
The hashtags to use will be #littlemisssawtoothqal and #littlemisssawtoothquilt.

What are we making
We are making a sampler quilt that is modern-ish. We’re still using the traditional grid, but we have lots of negative space for you to play with. The Little Miss Sawtooth quilt plays with the old favorite block: the sawtooth star, but it changes out the center of all of them, making each block very unique. Sampler quilts are a perfect way to learn new techniques and grow your skills.
Skill Level Needed
This quilt is easy, beginner friendly, not fussy (although there will be fussy cutting). If you haven’t mastered the flying geese unit, you will! There is a gazillion of those little babies in this quilt, so prepare to get super friendly with them.
Here’s what you will learn if new to quilting:
- Flying Geese 4-at-a-time (the no waste method that I used to shun and have now embraced. ha!)
- 2 methods for making Half Square Triangles
- Basic piecing skills
- Basic seam pressing skills
- Snowballing or adding corners to squares
- Turning blocks on point and trimming
Supplies
An Introduction PDF will be sent you (if signed up for the newsletter) a month or so before we begin the quilt along with fabric requirements. This is a very scrap friendly quilt and you are encouraged to use what you have on hand. I will be using scraps and fat quarters for the color parts of my stars. Everything else, I will be using yardage for. There will be fabric bundles available for those of you who want or who don’t have enough scraps (more on that later).
Tools I’m using:

The Ruby Beatrice Quilt
I’ve been looking so forward to this one! Will you be offering any fabric kits for this quilt? I always love your choices.
I will be! Next month when I release fabric requirements, I’ll release those too.
Fantastic! Looking forward to this!
When is the PDF entire pattern for this quilt going to be available? Have been waiting for this……it’s such a pretty quilt. I buy a lot of fabrics from you when you post them on Monday. Want to take the class…..but like to have my own pattern as I go along….. not having to pull up a video to work on it. Thank you so much.?
Hi Paula! The PDFs will release biweekly when the quilt along starts in September.
All so beautiful!! Are these 8” blocks? I’m not a beginner, have just discovered you, will start the Bad Girl Q. as soon as possible, and am now in love all over again with the variations of this good old block! Thank you, thank you!!!!
12.5” blocks. ?
I am super technically challenged and while I have pictures, I am uncertain how to post them properly. Have patience.
Hi! Are you on Instagram? That’s the easiest way to post pictures.
I signed up for the Little Miss Sawtooth quilt along some time ago. I’m having a problem finding the patterns. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Carolyn Langham
The patterns are all located in each of the Havel’s blog posts. They will specifically say, “click her for Millie pattern” or “click here for Gabrielle pattern. They are located above each video tutorial. Let me know if you have any other trouble finding it. 🙂
Every other week you’ll receive a newsletter with a big button that will tell you to click here to get the pattern. Once you click you are taken to that week’s blog post on the Havel’s blog. Read through the post and you’ll find a link that’s says “click here for the pattern”. They are always just above the video tutorial in every post.
How do I get the free pattern for Little miss sawtooth quilt? Thank you.
