Monday is all about Fabric – #44 – Fabric by the bolt + The Morning Sun Quilt Along

Hi Friends!

I made a bit of a splurge.  I bought several bolts of fabric.  All of them are from Art Gallery Fabrics.  Not shown is the shelf of low volumes I have also just acquired.

I actually buy fabric by the bolt a couple of times a year.  I make quite a bit of quilts, and bolts come in handy for quilt backings and things like that.  Plus, with the amount of low volume fabrics I use, it’s nice to have lots on hand.  Even so, it can take me years to use this much fabric, so I make quilt kits and things like that and to be able to do that I need bolts of fabric.  There are a couple of other reasons that I won’t bore you with.  I do want to get with the main reason for buying them and that is the new quilt along.

Fat Quarter Shop's Book of the Month

I mentioned a few weeks ago of a new quilt along I’ll be having on my blog and many of you were kind enough to let me know that you would be interested.  I was initially going to use my Liberty fabric stash, however, I ended up using most of that in the Heavens to Betsy quilt (pattern do out later this month) and didn’t feel I had enough to use it for this one as well.  Plus, I thought having monthly kits for this quilt along might be an option that some of you would want.  If for instance, you wanted to make this exact quilt in these exact fabrics.

So here is the quilt design for the new quilt along….

This quilt is called Morning Sun.  I’m pretty smitten with this design.  When I was designing quilts for the Bari J Quilt Along, this quilt design was one of the options that I offered to Bari.  I’ve tweaked it just a bit since then.  Bari ended up choosing the Anthologie quilt to use for her blog, so this one kinda got left behind.  I loved it too much to just completely chuck it though so I’ve been saving it, altering it just a bit and waiting for the right opportunity to use it.

It’s going to measure 72″ square and I’m sure you can see all that yummy low volume.

The quilt along will begin February 1, and the last pattern will release October 1.  There will be a new pattern released each month.  This is a paid quilt along.  There will be a $5 fee.  For that $5, you will receive a new pattern for the quilt in your inbox on the first of every month.  There will also be other options like I mentioned above.  The other options will include fabric packages, precut fabric pieces, and a custom quilt label made specifically for this quilt.

I’m also toying with the idea of creating a direct messaging group with participants of the quilt along so we can chat on IG a little more easily, but I’m not completely sure about how I’d work that.  If you have thoughts, I’d love to hear them.  I like quilt alongs for the community feel of them + of course the fact it holds you accountable and on a schedule which helps get projects completed.  We comment on each other’s progress on IG, but having a direct messaging group makes things a bit more intimate and I really like that option.

Support a small shop

Sew Blossom is a very small shop, but I’m loving their fabric bundles.  Be sure to visit!

By January 15th, I will have signups for the Morning Sun Quilt Along available.  You are always encouraged to use your own stash, but the fabric options of this quilt along will be detailed by the 15th as well.  Just in case you are interested in that option.  There are several quilt makers who I know have a hard time cutting fabrics, so the precut pieces monthly option might be of interest since all the fabric will be cut and ready to sew for you.

I’m excited about this one!  I hope you will be too.
