I finished my second Bad Girl quilt (pattern releases Wednesday!). This time it’s in wintery blue Essex linens. It’s got some great textures. And those red roses in the low volume peeking out are making me squeal.
Here was my first Bad Girl quilt, and you can see some of my testers versions here. This one might appear a bit different to you. My last one was the alternate version and this one is the original version, but I did keep the centers of my stars the same colors as the star beams unlike in my pattern. I’m pleased with the change.
There is so many ways that you can change up this quilt and we are going to talk about all of it!

Today was spent mostly outside. The weather was a perfect 65 degrees. It begged for me to get outside! I photographed this latest quilt and spent some lounging in my porch swing and then cleaning up the yard. We’ve still got leaves everywhere!
I’ve mentioned that the Bad Girl pattern will have two versions of the quilt that you can make. The differences are how those tiny four-patches are turned. In this original version you can see that they are turned in, and by doing so make that little lemon shape between where the Dresdens connect. It has a bit more of an open feel to it, I think.
My first version of this quilt which was the original version had the four-patches turned out making all the andromeda star blocks connect in a way.
I’m not quite sure which way I prefer which is why I made both versions. What do you think?
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the solids in this quilt over on Instagram. They are Essex yarn dyed linens from Robert Kaufman. You can find my post about them here.
They were nice to work with. They fray a bit more than regular cotton fabrics, so I had to be careful there, but not so much where I’m bothered.
They also give the quilt this really nice texture.

I went with a pinky red for my binding because of the red roses that ended up on my background. I originally thought I’d do something gold, but I’m okay with how it turned out.
You can’t tell in the pictures but the whole thing is quilted in a pale pink thread.

I love how the solid color stars look in this design. You can go wild with the other fabrics and the “bones” of the design pull it all together. Brilliant!
Thank you so much!
