Monday Is All About Fabric – #122 – Birdie

Today’s post is part of a series on this blog every Monday.

I don’t know about you, but fabric is EVERYTHING! I love buying it, petting it and then gushing with you about it. I’ll show you my latest fabric purchases and where you can buy it too.

Y’all I have fallen madly in love with Hoffman’s Me + You Indah batiks.  I looooooove them.  I’ve only purchased three of their fabrics, but I cannot wait to get my hands on more.  I put together a small bundle this week using these three fabrics mixed with other yummy prints.

Let’s gush!

You can probably tell how much I love the Cheeky birds.  I’ve put them in SO MANY bundles.  I also really love that Goldenrod floral print too.

Maybe you are new to quilting and have yet to discover batiks.  Let’s chat about them real quick!  Batiks are made differently than regular cotton fabric.  They are cotton and are still amazing in quilts.  I particularly like them because they have the appearance of texture.  If you are making a patchwork like vines or a plant, by using a green batik it takes on this authentic plant-like look.  That was a horrible explanation, but maybe you get it.  🙂  Batiks are made by hand.  They dye the fabric, draw or print on it with wax and then dye it again.  Here’s a great video.  The Me + You fabrics are a bit different than regular batiks as they are made to look very modern.  Still you get that great hand quality, but with a modern look that I tend to prefer.

This Week

Fingers crossed I manage to get a video tutorial completed and posted on Wednesday.  I have this amazing new product over at Meander + Make that I cannot wait to show you.  I’m literally squealing inside.  It’s going to make some quilt making much faster!!  If I don’t manage to get it done, there will be a Quilt Maker’s Tale post instead.

On Friday, we will be on Week 2 of the Little Miss Sawtooth quilt along.  Week 2!!  We are making three stars.  So excited!
