QAYG Pincushion Class – A Scrappy Quilt-As-You-Go Project for Your Leftover Fabrics

There’s a brand new class coming to Quilt Class, and if you love scrappy sewing, you’re going to want in on this one. The QAYG Pincushion Class is a quick and satisfying project built around quilt-as-you-go piecing and tiny fabric scraps — and it’s coming to the classroom by the end of this week.

The class includes a full step-by-step video series, a downloadable pattern, and two finishing methods to choose from. You’ll also find tips for stuffing, adding trim, fussy cutting your fabric, and stitching up your own one-of-a-kind pincushion.

Let’s make something…

QAYG Pincushion Party | A Scrappy, No-Rules Quilt-As-You-Go Class

What this class is perfect for:

  • Using up your tiniest scraps
  • Playing with fussy cut motifs
  • Practicing quilt-as-you-go
  • Making thoughtful handmade gifts
  • Adding a pretty pincushion to your sewing space

What to look for in your sewing space:

  • Pom-poms, ricrac, crochet lace, or any trim that can be basted around the edges
  • Embroidery pieces you’ve stitched, collected, or saved — initials, flowers, or symbols work beautifully
  • Buttons or tiny charms that could be added to the center or corners
  • Scrap binding or leftover strips to finish the edges
  • Fussy cut fabric featuring motifs you’d love to show off
  • Leftover pieced blocks like half square triangles or hourglass units you can repurpose

Suggested supplies:

  • Fabric scraps (small strips or blocks)
  • Batting
  • Base fabric (goes under the batting)
  • Two backing pieces
  • Optional trim or binding
  • Stuffing: polyfil, crushed walnut shells, wool roving, or rice
  • Sewing machine, thread, rotary cutter, ruler, basic notions

💡 Prefer just the pattern?
The standalone pattern will be available in a few weeks if you’d rather skip the video class.

This is one of those quick, creative projects that’s simple to start and hard to stop, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Whether you make one pincushion or a whole set, this is a fun way to play with scraps and practice QAYG in a low-pressure format.
