Soulshine Quilt Class Update: Moving Into Quilting the Quilt

The Soulshine Quilt is moving into the next stage, and this is where things start getting really fun.
In this lesson inside the Soulshine Quilt Class, we shift from building the quilt top to thinking about how we want to quilt it. Up to this point, we’ve focused on fabric prep, block construction, layout, and assembling the quilt top. Now we begin looking at how the quilting itself will bring the whole design to life.
In this chapter, I’m sharing my approach to quilting the Soulshine quilt, including how I think about quilting the foreground and background differently so the star design really stands out. This step adds movement and texture to the quilt and helps highlight the structure we created with the blocks.
If you’d like to see what we’re working on right now inside the class, you can watch the video below.
One thing I love about this stage of quilting is that there are so many directions you can go. Some quilters will finish their quilt top using the quilting methods they already enjoy, while others may want to explore new quilting ideas that add more dimension and detail.
Who This Chapter Is For
This chapter is a great next step if you’re ready to go a little deeper into free motion quilting.
If you already feel comfortable with the basics of free motion quilting, this chapter will help you build on those skills and think more intentionally about how quilting interacts with the design of the quilt.
If you’ve taken my Quilt as Desired class or the Finish It class, this chapter expands on many of the ideas from those lessons.
It’s not meant to be a first introduction to free motion quilting, but rather a place to grow if you’re already a confident or advancing free motion quilter.
Of course, if you prefer, you can absolutely finish your quilt top using your usual quilting approach. The quilt top stands beautifully on its own and is ready for whatever finishing style you enjoy most.
