Embroidery is not a subject I talk about much on this blog. We are all about our quilts, after all. But there are places for it in quilting too. Like applique! Anthologie is being released next month and this tutorial has been designed with that quilt in mind. There’s a lot of applique and room for hand stitching on Anthologie and so today I’m just going to show you a few basics and some basic stitches that I know that you might find useful when you make Anthologie with me. There’s a quilt along too, by the way,...

Coats and Clark Embroidery Panels + My Cacti Embroidery Pillow (a tutorial)
Hello, my darling Readers! Today’s post is a sponsored post by Coats and Clark. I’m sure you remember me working with Coats and Clark before when we did the Star Dance Quilt Along back in August. By the way, I’m still quilting almost exclusively with their Quilt+ thread. It’s just so thick and luscious. Well, they saw that I also enjoyed embroidery from this post and asked if they could send me some of their brand new embroidery panels that they teamed up with Natalie Malan to make. And since I had no embroidery projects going at the moment...
Why I LOVE embroidery – Signature fabrics Embroidery Pillow – ( sewing finish )
Last week I completed my most favorite pillow ever. I’m calling it my favorite because of the most perfect to me fabrics I used and the most time consuming embroidery work I’ve ever done. I carried the embroidery part around for a month stabbing at it with my needle over and over and over again. Today I wanted to share why I so love embroidery and what it means to me. Where I learned to embroider I learned how to embroidery in a Creativebug class. This one here. I was addicted from the very start, but even...
Lately in March
Today is a random assortment of things I’ve been working on or doing this month. I’m trying to make these end of the month posts a habit. I like to reflect on what all I achieved or not achieved so that I don’t feel time has blown by and nothing has happened. I want to remember. Find all my Lately posts so far right here. March has been a very difficult month for me personally and time-wise. A tornado came through about two weeks ago and hit my daughter’s apartment, a total loss for her. She has moved back...
5 methods of Hand Work that will Soothe Your Soul
I feel like before my mind realized I needed a slow down, my body already knew. Prior to the end of 2016, I had already dabbled here and there in ‘slowing down’. I had just not given it a name or thought very much of it. I learned to do some needle work because of a project in particular. I learned to crochet because I had an aging grandmother and it was HER favorite pastime and I didn’t want her life to end without teaching it to me. But at the very end of 2016, I read something that...

The Great Corset Challenge – Completed ( quilt reveal )
Hello, lovely quilt loving peeps! I’m talking about the Great Corset Challenge today (see the other applicants here). I mentioned I was participating in this challenge earlier this month here. I really got moving on this quickly, buuuuuut all the hand stitching through me a curve ball, took almost the entire month. I finished the trimming and binding last night. It’s all done and she is looking pretty feminine and sexy, I think. She’s also a little coy if you didn’t notice. I’ve imagined her as French, you see, what with all the Cherie fabrics she must be. She...
A wandering quilt – mine, the honey bee quilt
This month I start a journey with a new traveling quilt group called Wandering Quilt. I have done a traveling quilt group before in 2015 and received an incredible quilt that I never posted about. Maybe I should post that soon. Here is a pic of that quilt in case you are interested. That project really tested my skills. Our group had some incredibly talented women and I doubt I measured up, but I was honored to be a part of their group. Just in case you are not familiar with traveling quilts here is the idea: Each member...
