September Quilt Room Update: Lulu Louise, Mini Quilts & Fall Sewing

There’s a lot happening around the quilt room this September! I’ve finished a project that has taken me most of the year, we’re getting ready to start a brand-new Quilty Class, Happy Home is almost here, and I’m bringing back a favorite fall project from last year.

Lulu Louise Is Coming September 10

First up is Lulu Louise!

This quilt originally appeared in my first book, A Life With Quilts, but over the past couple of months I’ve completely rewritten it as a standalone quilt pattern.

The original pattern included one size. The new Lulu Louise pattern includes three sizes, and I’ve also changed the construction method. We’re using strip piecing this time around, which makes this quilt come together so stinkin’ fast.

It’s all straight-line piecing, making Lulu Louise a great beginner-friendly quilt. There’s also lots of negative space, which means plenty of room to play when you get to the quilting.

The Lulu Louise quilt pattern releases September 10, and then we begin the Lulu Louise class inside Quilty Class on September 14. The pattern is included with the class, and we’ll work through both the piecing and the free-motion quilting.

Last Call for Happy Home

The Lulu Louise quilt I’m working on is made with my Happy Home fabric collection, and we are officially in the final days of the Happy Home preorder.

Happy Home is expected to arrive at the end of September. Right now, bundles, kits, and individual yardage are available to preorder at a discount.

Once the preorder closes, the discount ends and the kits and individual yardage will no longer be available. Bundles will remain in the shop until they sell out.

I’ve made SO much with this collection already, including Lulu Louise and several of the mini quilts you’ll see in the video.

We Just Finished Light in the Dark

Over at Quilty Class, we’ve just wrapped up our Light in the Dark mini quilt.

I made mine right alongside everyone in class, and now we’re getting ready to move from a tiny quilt to Lulu Louise.

One thing I always want to remind Quilty Club members is that you don’t have to take these classes while we’re actively working through them together. Your membership gives you access to the previous Quilty Classes too, so you can jump into a project whenever it works for you.

The Book of Many Mini Quilts Is Finished!

This is the update I’m probably most excited about.

I have officially put the finishing touches on the Book of Many Mini Quilts, and it is now with testers!

I HAVE A COVER. The patterns are written. The minis are made. And after working on this project for most of the year, it feels very strange and very wonderful to say that.

This is my fourth book, and I think it may have taken me longer to write than any book I’ve made before. It includes 16 different mini quilt patterns, with lots of different techniques and opportunities to play.

And Then There’s My Mini Quilt Wall…

Last November, I decided that one of my goals for 2026 was to create an entire gallery wall filled with mini quilts.

And I DID IT.

I’ve been working on these little quilts since the beginning of the year, and I honestly did not expect to love this project as much as I have.

I’ve never really considered myself a mini quilt person. I’ve played around with them here and there, but making this whole collection completely changed my mind.

Mini quilts are FUN.

I can piece one one day, quilt it the next, and actually finish the thing before I have a chance to lose interest. There isn’t a giant unfinished project sitting in the corner staring at me for the next three months.

Yesterday I took every single mini off my wall so I could film them individually, and then I put the entire wall back together again. It was quite the production, but seeing them all hanging together after spending the year making them was worth it.

Mini Quilts Changed My Free-Motion Quilting Too

There was another benefit to this project that I didn’t really expect.

My free-motion quilting has grown SO much this year.

I remember being a beginner and struggling just to make a swirl. Free-motion quilting is hard. There’s really no way around the fact that it takes practice to get your hands, your machine, and your brain all cooperating with each other.

These little quilts gave me a place to practice without the pressure of committing to an intricate quilting design across an entire large quilt.

Want to try feathers? Try them on a mini.

Want to play with ruler work? Put it on a mini.

Want to attempt some weird little quilting design you aren’t sure you can actually pull off? MINI.

It makes those harder techniques feel so much more approachable. And every time you finish one, you’ve added another little bit of practice.

If you want to keep building your quilting skills but don’t always want to commit to a big quilt, I cannot recommend little projects like these enough.

Bringing Back Something Old: Cozy Fall Stitches

And because September is here, I have to bring back something from last year.

Cozy Fall Stitches!

Fall is the cutest of seasons, okay?

Cozy Fall Stitches is a collection of five small fall projects, including pillows, a mini quilt, pumpkin placemats, and plenty of little pumpkin cuteness.

We originally made these projects together as a Quilty Class, and that complete class is still available. If you’re a Quilty Club member, you already have access to it and can start whenever you’d like.

But this year, Cozy Fall Stitches is also coming to physical pattern book form!

The physical version is coming at the end of September and is available to preorder now.

That’s September Around the Quilt Room

There’s a lot coming together this month.

Lulu Louise releases September 10. The Book of Many Mini Quilts is finally with testers and heading toward its October release. Happy Home will be arriving later this month. Cozy Fall Stitches is coming in physical form. And after working on it all year, my mini quilt gallery wall is finally complete.
