Carolina Mingle Quilt – #3 – Quilt Reveal

I love, love, love doing quilt alongs with y’all.ย  It really motivates me to stay on track and get things finished.ย  I was also crazy inspired by these fabrics.ย  I’m normally not into red, but the navy owned me to the bone and I loved the way the red roses popped from everywhere.

Today, I’m showing you my third Carolina Mingle quilt.

It’s nice to mix in a few quick and simpler quilt makes between some of the more difficult.ย  Sometimes I like to challenge myself, other times I just want to make for the sake of making.ย  This is an easier quilt pattern, almost perfect for a beginner.ย  The foundation piecing is new for many and I did keep hearing that while we worked our way through this quilt along.

The star’s points are pieced on top of another fabric.ย  This is something that was used very often in the 30s and 40s.ย  I’ve mentioned before that I’ve bought rescue quilts that still had the bits of newspaper in them that was used as the foundation.ย  In this pattern, we use fabric as the foundation.ย  I’ve you’ve ever made a string quilt, you are probably very familiar with this method.

When sewing the very first outer border of the points it’s important to get the fabric just so, as this dictates how all your other points will line up.ย  I’ll be adding all the video tutorials that were used in the quilt along to the pattern so that you can have them there if you need a little bit of help.

You can purchase the pattern here if you are interested.

I am totally blown away by all the other versions of the Carolina Mingle quilt there are now.ย  So much gorgeousness!ย  Do click that link and look at them all.ย  I also want to thank everyone who has made one of these quilts.ย  Your support means the world to me!

I’ve got the custom quilt labels made specifically for this quilt here if you are interested.ย  If you are making this quilt after the quilt along ended, I’m happy to change the label up some and remove the “quilt along” wording.

So this was my third version of this quilt.ย  I think it might be might favorite version too.ย  Here is my first one and here is my second.

When I first got the fabrics for this version I was worried because some of them (particularly the big roses) were so multicolored, I thought it might take away from the star beams.ย  So weird, because that ended up being my very favorite part of the quilt.ย  I kept telling myself that fabrics that were mostly one color would be much better.ย  Turns out, that’s not necessarily the case.

I’m still sticking to my rule though that this quilt looks best with the darkest fabric on the outside of star.ย  Even when looking at all the other Carolina Mingle quilts in the world, that look was my favorite look.

There was one quilter who used a red background.ย  It was so amazing!ย  Here’s that one.ย  It’s so interesting to see everyone’s take on the exact same quilt.

And even after I’ve made this quilt three times, my favorite part of it is that big pinwheel in the background of the quilt.ย  I like when the more you look at a quilt, the more you see.
