On My Sewing Table: Swayful Quilt in Snuggly Fabrics

There’s something really satisfying about watching a quilt start connecting across blocks, and Swayful has been especially fun for that.

Let’s make quilts…
This week, I finished the 68″ x 68″ version using Snuggly fabrics, and I wanted to share a closer look at the quilt top, some thoughts about the design, and the process of picking out wide backs for the finished quilt.
Swayful started with me wanting to play with the idea of a knot. As the blocks rotate and begin linking together, the woven effect becomes more and more noticeable across the quilt top. It’s one of those quilts that changes a little depending on how close or far away you are from it, which made this one really enjoyable to work on.
This quilt is also surprisingly approachable to make. The construction is built from repeated units and simple snowball techniques, making it a confident beginner friendly pattern while still feeling visually interesting once everything comes together.
For this version, I used Snuggly fabrics, which felt like such a good fit for the soft movement in the design. The colors and prints really help highlight the woven effect happening across the quilt.

One of my favorite parts of finishing a quilt top is auditioning wide backs, and I spent part of this video pulling different options to see what worked best with the quilt. I always love seeing how a backing can completely change the personality of a quilt.

The Swayful quilt pattern will be releasing in June, and I’m excited to finally start sharing more of this one. I think this quilt has become one of my favorite combinations of movement, structure, and scrappy play.
